Six Hours Until the FANTASY CLUB

We are very close to sold out for tonight’s performance of The Fantasy Club! And after tonight you’ll only have two more chances before it’s gone, gone, gone! Saturday we still have seats, an Sunday is looking similar to Friday. But we hope to get everyone in! Buy your tickets in advance to guarantee your seat!

I wish I could say that I was taking a break after The Fantasy Club comes down, but I’m not stopping for nothing! I am only 7 plays in to 31 Plays in 31 Days, I have a full length play to finish (I’m 22 pages into my first draft), my proposals for the San Francisco Olympians Festival to write, grad school starting, kindergarten starting (for my girl), and a theater in Belfast just wrote to tell me they want to help me develop another play that I’ve been working on (more details to come as things are worked out). Sleeping is overrated.

Buy your tickets for The Fantasy Club before you miss the whole thing!

Sign Up Today to Audition for the San Francisco Olympians Festival IV: Trojan Requiem

September 29th and 30th you have the opportunity to audition for one of the most exciting indie theatre festivals San Francisco has to offer! San Francisco Olympians Festival is holding auditions for Trojan Requiem, a festival of new works being read this November! I have loved being a part of the writer’s group this year, I’ve met so many exciting local artists! Which is why you should audition! And here is more info from the event page on how to do just that:

The San Francisco Olympians Festival is returning and will need dozens of actors for its 2013 festival which plays the middle three weeks of November!

In the month of November in 2013, No Nude Men Productions, one of San Francisco’s longest running indy theater troupes, will roll out 36 new plays written by 30 local writers, each one focusing on an element of the Trojan War mythos.

Each of these 36 plays will receive a dramatic reading at the Exit Theater, and for that we’ll need actors, so if you’re the kind of person who can act AND read (no, it’s not a given), we’d love to have you join us in what promises to be even a bigger success than last year’s festival!

Auditions are September 29, 2 PM to 9 PM, and September 30, 7-10 PM, at the Exit. Please e-mail sfolympians@gmail.com to schedule an audition slot.

Auditions will consist of reading aloud passages of text we choose ahead of time. Please bring a headshot and resume. Leave yourself at least half an hour to get through the audition process.

There is a small stipend, determined by attendance each night of the festival (i.e. you get a percentage of the box office).

If scheduling permits (and you’re interested), all actors will be considered for multiple plays.

For more information about the festival and the individual plays and authors, check out www.sfolympians.com

Please pass this on to any actors you may know!

Sorry, but we can not use AEA performers for this event.

There’s also the show schedule on the event page, so be sure to go there for more information and then get your audition slot! Here’s the facebook event page:

A Review of the FANTASY CLUB

My first play and now my first review! Sam Hurwitt is the editor-in-chief of Theatre Bay Area magazine and theatre critic for the Marin Independent Journal and KQED Arts, and he reviewed The Fantasy Club! Here are some of my favorite bits:

“Pretty much every conversation between Frances and her old crush is exquisitely uncomfortable, as is Sam’s shameless flirting.”

“The less-imaginary sex scenes are hilariously awkward in comparison.”

Play One FLOWERS at BREAKFAST

Oh, I am SO tired and exhausted! Opening a play is busy times! But The Fantasy Club was so much fun this weekend, I hope you get the chance to come this weekend if you missed the show so far.

Here is my FIRST play for 31 Plays in 31 Days… Yes, I know I am very behind. I’m not too stressed about it though, my plan is to catch up this week before closing weekend. Want to read it? You know you do… It’s just a one-minute play, so you can handle it.

Flowers At Breakfast by Rachel Bublitz

A one-minute play.

Characters:

Hank, male, any race, mid thirties to mid fifties. June’s father. Sad, lonely, probably wears flannel.

June, female, any race, mid teens to mid twenties. Angry, and self reliant. June doesn’t need anyone.

Setting:

A crappy diner.

JUNE and HANK are on stage.

HANK I brought you flowers.

JUNE I see that.

HANK Do you like them?

JUNE They’re fine.

HANK It’s good to see you.

JUNE Right.

HANK It is.

JUNE Well, thanks for breakfast.

HANK You’re leaving?

JUNE I have class.

HANK Can I see you again?

JUNE What’s the point?

HANK I’m your father.

JUNE Could have fooled me.

JUNE exits. End of play.

Twas the Night Before Opening

And now a poem…

Twas The Night Before Opening

Twas the night before opening, and all through the land

No creature was resting, none in the All Terrain band.

The costumes were finished, the lines were all learned

In hopes that fantastic reviews would be earned.

The stage manager ran all over the place,

Giving all of our fabulous actors great chase.

“Do you know where your props are supposed to be?

Put them away when you’re finished,” she begged with a plea.

When out of the chaos, our director arrived,

Solving problems is where she always thrived.

“Listen to one another, remember each cue,

Then the audience will surely love all they view!”

With a pen and notebook, I sit all alone

Watching my words have lives of their own.

“Can this really be true?” I wondered to myself,

My heart beats so fast I stop and question my health.

Before this play only lived in my head,

Now that it’s breathing, my heart fills with dread.

Will the audience laugh or demand back their money?

I do hope that my story is engaging and funny!

Then the director comes to me, seeing the fear on my face

She quiets my anxiety with her calm speech and her grace.

And I remember that plays are supposed to be put on

That’s why I wrote it, so the show must go on!

The stage manager shouts, “Places! We need to finish tech!”

Then everything’s quiet, for the sound cues we must check.

Will we see you tomorrow night? I hope that we will!

Because funny is funnier when all the chairs are filled!
